In a culture that places great value on longevity, Ayurveda holds oils in high esteem. This is primarily because oils aid elasticity of tissues and counteract the ravages of aging.

In Ayurveda, the kapha dosha is said to predominate in childhood, the pitta from more or less puberty to middle age, and vata — characterized by dryness, brittleness, and creakiness — in old age. To maintain viscosity, protect against wear and tear, and aid deep relaxation and peaceful sleep, special formulas for full body massage as well as massage of the scalp and temples have been passed down for centuries.

Ashwagandha/Bala Oil, organic, 4 oz.

This massage oil is vata pacifying and can be used to strengthen muscles and nourish tissue. It is suitable for athletes as well as elderly persons and those convalescing after major illness. Bala, in particular, is used to restore muscles that have been atrophied by illness or malnutrition.

Ayur Joint Oil, 4 oz.

Ayur Joint Oil is used in Ayurvedic medicine to relieve pain and heal muscles and joints. The herbs are cooked in mustard oil and massaged into the tissue to promote relief and regeneration of tissues.

Guduchi Massage Oil has been formulated to reduce excess pitta and vata. It is used in India to reduce burning sensations and headaches as well as excess perspiration.

Jatamansi is a precious herb that is both detoxifying and relaxing. This oil can be used sparingly for massage as well as on the hair. It can also be rubbed into the temples before bedtime since it promotes restful sleep. It is blended with mental herbs to aid focus, clarity, and perception.
